Broken Hill in Far West NSW is the original home of BHP Mining and one of the worlds largest ore bodies of zinc, lead and silver. Broken Hill in the early days was ruled by the trade unions. In those times, if you were born in Broken Hill, you were considered to be an “A Grouper”. If you were born outside of Broken Hill, you were a “B Grouper”. A Groupers were given priority employment in the mines over B Groupers and there was a class division based on whether you were born here or not.
Today, people still talk about A and B Groupers but it’s mostly in jest and that’s what this t-shirt design is intended to be - something a B Grouper would wear to poke fun at A Groupers.
